How good are my chances of landing at Suvarnabumi airport in Bangkok on Monday morning?

My flight leaves from Brisbane at 11:59 pm Sunday EST and is due to arrive at Bangkok International at about 6 am Bangkok time. With all the protests and what not, what do you think my chances are of my flight not being cancelled and the protestors to have moved out by then? I'm pretty sure they're low, but I'd like your opinion :) I really don't want to cancel my flight, it was due to leave tomorrow Saturday evening!

  1. Not as good as it should be.Right at the moment it is a good advise to stay out of that country.Nevertheless good luck.
  2. dont even think of it
  3. Latest news showed that the Thai government has declared Emergency at 2 Bangkok airports. Police had been ordered to evacuate the demonstrators but they vowed to fight till death. In this circumstances, you think whether it is safe or not. Why not seek advice from your embassy in Bangkok?
  4. I think your chances of getting into Thailand on Monday are good. I would check with the airlines. If for some reason your flight does not land at BKK, it might possibly be redirected to Utapao, which is near Pattaya, and about 2 hr drive to downtown Bangkok. If you end destination is somewhere else, there are also other airports in the country operating and able to take international flights; Chiang Mai, Phuket, are two...perhaps more. After you get here, don't worry, everything is OK.
  5. Probably not very good. Even if the protesters are cleared out of the airport this weekend it remains to be seen what damage they have done or what damage is done clearing them out. If your flight departs then it's possible you will land at another airport and be bused to Bangkok. Be aware though that you could be flying into a coup and there is a very good chance that this coup will not be as peaceful as the 2006 one. read: http://photojourn.wordpress.com/2008/10/20/thailand-political-crisis-worsens-further-bloodshed-forecast/
  6. Slim to none if your landing at Bangkok.
  7. Do you really think it is worth the risk at this point?
  8. Check with the airline. Some of the airlines are using military bases to fly to and from.
  9. Not very good....even if they cleared the airport now of protesters, it will take days to clean up the mess they have made, then factoring in the backlog of getting people out the country who have been delayed, even earliest would be mid-week next week.....somehow dont think this will be over in the next few days
