How do I get from Florence to Rome?
I would like to start at the Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence. Price and estimated time for the trip is appreciated!

- it takes approx 2 1/2 hours Peak times (economy) is $58.00 (USD) first class is $82.00 (USD) Hint: get to the station early, when I went (Rome to Florence) the ticket sales sent me to the wrong track and we missed the train. Enjoy your trip Florence was the highlight of mine
- Schedules and prices for the trains here in Italy are at: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html On the fast trains, it takes 1 hr 35 min and costs 44 euro in 2nd class (approximately $52.50 at today's exchange rate), but you can get a discount for early purchase of the ticket - for 7 day advance it's 37 euro, for 15 day advance 31 euro. There are also a few regional trains that cost only 16.10 euro in 2nd class, but take 4 hr 11 min for the trip.
- ... and don't forget to timestamp your tickets in one of the (unmarked) little yellow boxes on the platforms before you board or you'll get a fine on the train!
- Regional trains are slow but really cheap: a ticket to Roma Termini costs 16,10 euros, to Roma Tiburtina (not far from the centre and connected with the line B of the subway) 15,70 euros. The fastest trains are highly expensive (44 euros!)
