Best place to watch the illumination and fire crackers show in Bangkok on 5th December?

I understand that very spectacular show of fire crackers and good illuminations are done in Bangkok on 5th December on the occasion of the King's Birth Day. Please tell me the timings of the show and the best places to watch the show.

1. The best place to go for this event is Sanam Luang where a alms giving ceremony is held in the morning followed by a huge festival of music and cultural events with fire works in the evening. Also Ratchadamnoen Ave will be decorated for this event.
