How does one get from the cruise port of Livorno, Italy to Florence, Italy inexpensively and quickly?

How does one get from the cruise port of Livorno, Italy to Florence, Italy inexpensively and quickly. Can one take a train? I don't want to pay the high price excursion fare if I don't have to.

  1. There's a train, of course! From Livorno Centrale to Firenze Santa Maria Novella ticket costs 6,60 euros in 2nd class and 9,90 euros in 1st class (when there's it). It takes 1 hour and 20-30 minutes. 2. Train is the best and Florence is definitely worth visiting. The cool thing about Florence is that you can actually walk everywhere fairly quickly. When you arrive at the train station in Florence, be sure to exit the station correctly to get to the centre of town - there are quite a few exits...
  3. I hate to say it but your best bet coming off a cruise ship is to take the transportation the ship offers (they may offer one without a tour). It takes quite a while to get from the port to anywhere. Also, if you only have one day, the cruise transportation will wait for you (for a bit) if you get lost and are late.
