Visitors Planet

Of these two, which is the bigger impediment to human advancement, greed or arrogance?

Greed: Lets be real here, we have cell phones smaller than credit cards, yet they refuse to actively seek alternative fuels. Laptops, tablet pcs, rovers on mars, yet we are still running our cars on dirty goop. Arrogance: “There can be no alien visitors to our planet because the distance is too great.” Why do we assign our limitations to everything else?

  1. Arrogance is worse, because they believe that they are better than everyone/thing so there's nothing to aspire to. At least with greed it has an opportunity to be a motivator.
  2. Arrogance is worse because it closes doors and while greed is not really a good thing it does motivate people and opens doors that may not be the best path but at least it's not standing still. It's better to do the wrong thing than to do nothing.
  3. based on your examples, we have to take care of our own problems before we can be successful with finding aliens. Also I dont think there exists an obstacle for human advancement. I think all these problems are supposed to be there; Through solving those is our way to advance.
  4. I think greed is the bigger sin of the two.
  5. Neither of these is an impediment to human advancement. Each of these is an impediment to the individual expressing or living out these beliefs. Human advancement has always proceeded even with such thought limitations in existence and probably always will.
  6. I don't think most of the fault is either, i think its ignorance. I mean, sure we use things to create energy that damages the earth, and we're very close minded when it comes to another intelligent live organisms. But the problem is that we are leaving people behind. We're leaving people that aren't as fortuante as us. Some people don't even know what a computer feels like. Human advancement will only "advance" if we are all together, we cannot leave people behind. And when it comes to that, arrogance comes in , and its not dependent on whether the aliens are coming, but on us.
  7. I think arrogance, because once we think we're good enough or that we're absolutely correct we stop advancing for the right reasons. Having said that, I think the two go together anyway. The difficulty is defining human advancement, if we think of the material realm both greed and arrogance can drive advancement. If you define advancement along ethical, philosophical, or spiritual lines both are detrimental.
  8. Greed & arrogance.. 2 sides of the same coin..
  9. it's really hard to choose between the two, i think both greed is what lets society cling onto their selfish desires, it's a more primitive aspect of human nature, you know the whole survival of the fittest, it comes down to the self, like people saying that as long as they die before the effects of global warming completely devestate the world- all is well, that is selfishness and selfishness and greed go hand in hand arrogance brings about religion, the need for humans to feel superior, it's too 'ridiculous' to accept the fact that once you're dead, you're dead, but no, humans are arrogant about their conscience, mind and intelligence, which is ironic because religion and that arrogance will also contribute to the downfall of humanity, i try not to put down religion, but when you look at the world and the people of the world too busy creating stupid distinctions and differences instead of working together towwards altruistic goals, i can't help but get irritated by religion but that falls in human nature again, the security blanket people need, the hope they need in life, the meaning to life and the satisfaction of an answer to all that is unknown i'm happier not knowing, many of life's mysteries will always be life's mysteries, that's how the universe works, and when it comes to life, you make what you want of it i liked the question though
  10. Greed can impede the advancement of world as we know it, whereas arrogance is merely an annoyance. We are all in this together. Greed can sway the name of progress to the other side of the equation.
  11. Arrogance breeds greed...so we must say goodbye to the mother to eliminate the offspring. Greed does not exist without arrogance. Greed is fed outside ourselves and can therefore be taken away. Arrogance exists within oneself and can only be eliminated by the choice of the individual. So my answer is Arrogance
  12. neither there is no such thing as human advancement and no impediments that i can see this is it and when it changes that will be it the moments appear to be attached but perhaps they are not and one moment is not advancing into another. what I would like to know is what is impeding ladida ladida Lavida Rose from acknowledging me stalking her answers!!!!!!!! *YAWN* it is taking the fun all out of it!!
