Apartment or Hostel in Buenos Aires? I'm going to be visiting Buenos Aires in August for about 10 days in early August for the first time. I'm a 24 year old, gay man, visiting from New York City. I'm pretty familiar with dealing with larger cities and have pretty good common sense when it comes to knowing what to avoid, etc. What would you suggest as far as accommodations? For such a short period, 10 days, would you suggest renting an apartment? Or just staying at a hostel? I will be staying alone, so it would be nice to meet other travelers. My budget is around $500 (U.S.) for the 10 days.

What can I expect to pay in terms of rent for an apartment in Buenos Aires? I am looking for an unfurnished 1-bedroom apartment or studio, ideally around 50 square meters and in Palermo or Barrio Norte (all though I would definitely take other safe barrios into consideration) for an indefinite period of time. The ads for temporrary furnished places you find all over the place are not helpful in this regard. What would an apartment like this typically go for, including all extra costs (cleaning the stairs, taking away the trash, taxes, utilities). Yes, and I know it's hard for foreigners because I own no property in BsAs, but I would put up a big deposit if necessary.

Can a gay man live comfortably in Buenos Aires? Hi, I am considering retiring (I'm 50) to Latin American country though I would like to live in France, it isn't possible on my level of income and savings. My question is: can a gay man live a comfortable (2 bedroom apartment with garden, cleaning person, restaurants, a car, healthcare...) life in Buenos Aires? I am already multilingual and becoming fluent in Spanish would take about 6 months for me. a) Is it culturally as rich as Paris (museums, intellectual life, people watching...)? b) What would the budget be for a very decent lifestyle? c) Is healthcare of good quality? d) Which is the best place to live with a view to ease of shopping, street life, cultural centers and SAFETY? Where do most exchange students in Buenos Aires live? I will be on exchange in Buenos Aires as of March of next year and I would like to meet people and have a great time. I would love to live in an apartment with other students but I don't know how easy it is to do this. Living with a host family doesn't particularly appeal to me and I've heard that residences are not nice to live in at all. I haven't yet chosen the university that I am going to study at, but I am trying to look for one that offers a good exchange program so that I can actually meet other exchange students and hopefully many Argentines. If there are any people that have been on exchanges to Buenos Aires and had excellent experiences, I would love to hear any suggestions/advice that you may have.
How comfortable can I live in Buenos Aires on my pension of $1250 USD/month? I was in the US Navy, and got injured, so now I receive $1,250 USD/ month tax free for the rest of my life. I also have a Bachelors Degree in Business with a concentration in marketing from the University of Michigan. I have $15,000 saved in the bank, and would like to check out prospective entrepreneurial opportunities to invest my $15,000 dollars. I have a year of Spanish from University of Michigan, but by no means can carry a conversation in Spanish. If I dedicate myself to studying espanol, how long do you think it would take before I can effectively communicate with the locals? Also, how does Montevido stack up against Buenos Aires for quality of life for a person in my position. I am a young man (27 years old in relatively good health) and absolutely love latina women, so I would like to live in an area with a nice dating scene too. Also, how hard would it be to bring my dog down there with me and find a dog friendly apartment? Any feedback would be appreciated. thank you sfdlac, I have considered Bogota in the past, but my concern is that it is too hot there for my liking. I sweat a lot, and don't know if I could handle the heat. So you think I could live comfortably on 1250 USD / month? I would like to live in a nice, safe area. Thanks for all the information. So if I got a job teaching english, how much would I usually be able to make per month doing that?
Where is a better place to live:Buenos Aires or Santiago? I am American and I plan to live overseas. I am not a jobseeker, I am retired. But I want your oppinion from those Americans whom lived in both cities: AMERICAN FRIENDLY: What country is more pro-american? AMENITIES: Subways, pedestrian malls, easy access to services? SERVICES: Banking/ATM and health System. Where is fast and less bureaucratic? OUTDOORS LIFE: Natural vistas, Mountains, beaches, parks, casino and driving distance resorts nearby? CLIMATE: SUMMER: BA is stormy hot in summer (High costs on A/C) while Santiago is sunny, temperate and breezy (No need for A/C). Winter: I've read that BA rains all year around, while Santiago only rains in the winter. BA has more temperate mornings, while Mornings in Santiago can be freezing 6 months a year. POLLUTION: Buenos Aires suffer from Odors and Water pollution while Santiago suffers of weather-based smog in Winter due hazy lack of ventilation, cold air, mountains. LAW & RULE: Chile seems far more stable and open than Argentina. Both are democratic. SECURITY: What areas are safe by night? PEOPLE & PERSONALITY: Where People is more attentive and less rude? COST OF LIFE: VAT tax? Food? Services (Electricity/Internet)? Imported goods? PROPERTY: What is the average cost of a new studio-room Condo/Apartment in downtown? So for rent? RECOMMENDATIONS?
Is 4800 dollars good for 5 months studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina? Take off flight expenses to and from, and tuition. I have an apartment for around $261 US for 5 months plus $261 for safety deposit, that's $1566 US. $131 entrance fee into the country = $1697 of unavoidable expenses. The rest is living, food, travel, entertainment for $3,103, will I survive off this amount? This is for anyone who might have traveled to argentina for study abroad, or is very knowledgable of Buenos Aires and life there? I do want to travel around argentina, Chile, Montevideo, Uruguay and Porto Alegre, Brazil. Should I pull out more money from a loan? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Buenos Aires rental tricks? Hi there moving to BA soon and was a bit scared by one post here that said you have to take a 2-year rental contract in most apartments or you can't move in!!! And that you need a guarantor? Sureley that sounds a bit harsh for an economy still working to get back on its feet? My budget it $1000 a month and I am a freelance writer so not sure landlords will be difficult because of this?. Also, Can I make it okay with $1,000? I was also wondering if anyone knows how Bogota compares to BA in terms of expense, lifestyle, etc. Can I live better with a $1,000 there? Thanks for any feedback.

Going to South America in November for 3 months? With boyfriend (age 26,27). We plan to spend 1 of the 3 months in Buenos Aires in an apartment, but keep debating on how we should spend our last 2 months after that. We want to see Iguazu Falls, wine country (maybe) and other things nearby, but not sure what we have time for (Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Uruguay?). Not interested in going north (Columbia, Ecuador, Venezuela). Also, we will be flying back out of BA so we can't travel too far unless we take flights within the continent. I'm traveling with a 40L backpack, so lots of flexibility for travel. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm into people watching/sitting outside at a cafe/outdoorsy stuff. Not much for spending hours in a museum or shopping. Love to dance, see live music, and eat!
