Has anyone traveled to Florence with a baby under a year old? I am looking at planning a holiday in the late summer next year for myself, my partner and our baby. Traveling from the UK. Our baby is expected Nov this year so I wondered if anyone has any experience to suggest if Florence is a good idea, or not. Or any suggestions of European trips which would suit if not this? Thanks in advance.

Why was beauty and education so important to the Medici family of Florence? I have to write a paragraph answering this question, and I have NO IDEA what to write. I know that the Medici family was a rich family of great bankers in Florence, and that Cosimo de' Medici was Florence's signore (ruler). I also know that Cosimo de' Medici had Florence beautified and redesigned. I am just having trouble answering that question up there. Could you guys give me some ideas? Thanks!
What can you tell me about the Florence Crittenton homes that are still in existence? I'd much prefer to hear from first mothers, or others who have done extensive research on this. A friend told me that she is going to work for a Florence Crittenton home, and I know these same homes have a very sordid past. Are they the same types of homes now, or do they help Mothers keep their babies, or...? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

How do I avoid theft in Florence and other parts of Italy? I am spending five weeks in Florence for school in two weeks. My grandparents (who have visited Italy on more than one occasion) are telling me how important it is that I get a money belt thing to wear under my clothes because it's so unsafe there with pickpockets and theft. Is this really necessary? Do they tend to pick out the tourists? And is there ways to avoid this? I'm just concerned that the tourist-y belt thing might scream, "pick on me, I'm not from around here!" My grandparents are really starting to freak me out.

What are off the beaten path places to see in Florence and recommend a local guide for the city? Sites not mentioned in every other guide book as well as non-touristy restaurants. Can anyone recommend a local guide who can do a tour of the city? Is there a Christmas Market in December? Anyone run the Florence Marathon in November? Thank you all for your answers. We actually spent 1.5 days in Florence last year and thought that was definitely NOT enough. So we are returning this November for a week. sueet2b's-I guess it's good to know there isn't anything really hidden. I will definitely follow your suggestions. Prematurely hit submit. What is an 'artigiani'? a fabricator? Is the restaurant you are referring to 4 Leoni? - On the opposite side of the Arno from the Uffizi. We dined al fresco there, and plan on dining inside upon our return. Do you have any other favorite restaurants? How about a great Enoteca where we may sample some wine (possibly) and purchase some to bring home? I heard Barolo and Brunello's were good Tuscan wines? Can you recommend a book about Florence and the its artists - plan on reading The Agony and the Ectasy by Irving Stone regarding Michelangelo's fictional biography. Would love to chat. Pick your brain about Florence? Possible? We don't leave until November. Hope you are enjoying your studies there!

What are your thoughts on the name Anna Florence? Anna honours Agnetha Faltskog, that was her nickname in English speaking countries as few people could say her name correctly. I had a great-aunt named Florence; I've never really like the name, but now I think I do. Thanks X Yep, thanks for insulting my great aunt who died around a year ago. How kind of you. If I'm using a family name, do you really think I want suggestions?

Why do we allow customs agents in Florence Arizona to steal money from immigrants being deported? I know someone who was deported. His family (U.S. Citizens) gave him $500 to ensure he could be safe. I.C.E. agents in Florence Arizona confiscated his belongings during the deportation process and took his cash out of his wallet before they deported him. We contacted several senators and the Deportation Supervisor in Florence Arizona, and they tried to deny it, saying all immigrants immediately deported don't have their belongings confiscated. Cameras record this activity, so it would be difficult to deny. Why are we allowing this to happen. It not only is a felony, but we are allowing the money of U.S. citizens to be stolen. These people should monitor the corrupt among them.

Thinking about going to Florence in October - can you give me some tips? I'm in desperate need of a short holiday and am thinking about heading to Florence, Italy next month. Can anyone else that has been there give me some tips on what to expect? How far is the city centre from the airport, would you say that it's better to take a taxi, or go on the train to my accommodation (car isn't an option for me)? I'm a little worried about the language barrier, so if I decide to take the train, would there be english speakers able to direct me if I get lost or bewildered? What is there to do in Florence in October? I'll be on a budget, so is there much cheap shopping/eating in the city? Also, is there much begging? Any advice would be appreciated!
